Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

Global Incident Tracker ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use https://globalincidenttracker.com and how we use it.

What we collect

  • Server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) for security and troubleshooting.
  • Contact form. If you contact us, we store the name, email address and message you submit so we can reply.
  • Watchlists. If you create one, we store your chosen countries, categories and frequency, and your email address if you choose email delivery. The address is used only to send the confirmation and the digests you asked for, and is never shared. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe; unsubscribing stops all sending, and the record is kept only so a stale link cannot re-enable it. Signing in to see all your watchlists uses a one-time link emailed to you and a sign-in cookie that lasts 30 days, used for nothing else. Push alerts are delivered through ntfy.sh, an independent notification service: it receives the alert text and a random topic name, never your email address.
  • Incident reports. If you report an incident we store what you submit, your IP address (to stop abuse) and, if you give it, your email address (only to tell you the result). The email address, IP address and any photos are never published. Photos are re-encoded when uploaded, which removes the location and camera data inside them; they are kept privately for the moderator.
  • Nothing else. We do not require accounts, we do not sell data, and we do not track you across other websites.

Cookies and tracking

We use analytics services, and nothing loads until you accept the consent banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, no analytics script is loaded and no such cookie is set — the tracker works exactly the same either way.

  • Google Analytics — page-view statistics, with IP anonymisation enabled. Governed by Google's privacy policy.

Your choice is stored locally in your own browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browser storage will make the banner appear again.

Location data

The Incidents Near Me page can ask your browser for your location. This is entirely optional, the request comes from your browser rather than from us, and if you allow it the coordinates are used only to run a one-off radius search. We do not store, log or share your location. You can revoke the permission at any time in your browser's site settings.

Third-party services

  • Map tiles are loaded from CARTO / OpenStreetMap servers.
  • Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
  • Leaflet and its clustering plugin are loaded from the unpkg CDN.

When your browser requests these resources, those providers receive your IP address as part of the normal request, governed by their own privacy policies.

Data retention & your rights

Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry. You may request a copy or deletion of your personal data at any time by writing to admin@globalincidenttracker.com.

Children

This site is a general-audience information service and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time; the date above always reflects the latest version.
