About Incidents & Disasters in Australia
Australia lies in Oceania, with its capital at Canberra. Historically the country is most affected by bushfires, cyclones, floods and droughts. This page monitors Australia around the clock, plotting every detected incident on the map above and giving each one its own permanent record page.
Our monitoring for Australia combines twenty-four independent streams: the USGS and EMSC seismic networks, the United Nations' GDACS alert system, NASA EONET and NASA FIRMS satellite observations, WHO outbreak bulletins, US NWS severe-weather alerts, the Smithsonian volcano programme, NOAA tsunami messages, GDELT global news monitoring, the Wikipedia current-events record, UN OCHA ReliefWeb, moderated public reports — and our own rotating sweep of local media in local languages. That last piece is what lets us capture smaller local incidents — building collapses, blasts, road and rail accidents, fires and drownings — that single-source trackers miss entirely.
So far in 2026, 2,152 incidents have been recorded in Australia, including 211 rated severe or extreme. Counters update automatically as new events are detected.
